To register for Te Ahu o Te Reo Māori, you will need to create an Education Sector Login (ESL) to be able to gain access to Whiria. Whiria is the Te Ahu o Te Reo Māori platform which is used to administer the registration process:

How to set up an ESL and Whiria access for Kōhanga Reo, Puna Reo or ECE employees

Tūāmahi 1:
  1. Download and print the form ECE User request ESL 38
  2. Complete section 1 & 2
  3. To complete section 3, provide evidence of your identity to your ECE Delegated Authoriser or your Service Provider Contact. In most circumstances, this is your Kaiako Matua, Tumuaki or Centre Manager.
  4. Tick the ‘request access to Whiria’ option on page 2
  5. Return your completed form (see page 2 of your form) to [email protected]
Tūāmahi 2:
  1. Te Ahu o Te Reo Māori will process your ESL 38 form. Please allow 1-3 working days.
Tūāmahi 3:
  1. Accept your email invitation to complete your account set up
  2. Once the Education service Desk has processed your ESL38 form you will be sent an invitation to finish setting up your ESL account
  3. Ensure the invitation is addressed to you, then select ‘Accept invitation’
  4. Find out more information about setting up your user account
  5. Complete the registration for Te Ahu o te Reo Māori within 14 days
If you have an existing ESL:
  1. Follow the same process as above; however, when completing sections 1 & 2 –  Fill in your Education Sector Logon username (if known)
  2. Once your form has been processed, accept your email invitation to confirm your account changes
  3. You will be sent an email invitation. Select ‘Accept invitation’ to confirm your account changes.
  4. Ensure you complete the registration for Te Ahu o te Reo Māori within 14 day

How to set up ESL and Whiria access for school and kura employees

Tūāmahi 1:
  1. Visit your kura/school Delegated Authoriser and request an ESL account with access to Whiria. In most circumstances, this is your Kaiako Matua, Tumuaki or Centre Manager.
  2. Your Delegated Authoriser is the only person with permissions to create new ESL account(s) and provide access to Whiria
Tūāmahi 2:
  1. You will be sent an email invitation to finish setting up your ESL account
  2. Ensure the invitation is addressed to you, then select ‘Accept invitation’
  3. Find out more information about setting up your user account
  4. Be sure to complete the registration for Te Ahu o te Reo Māori within 14 days

If you have an existing ESL:

Tūāmahi 1:
  1. Visit your Delegated Authoriser and request access to Whiria
  2. Your Delegated Authoriser is the only person with permissions to provide access to Whiria
  3. If you don’t know your Delegated Authoriser, log in to your ESL account and click ‘My Delegated Authorisers’ on the left-hand side

  1. You will be sent an email invitation
  2. Select ‘Accept invitation’ to confirm your account changes
  3. Complete the registration for “Te Ahu o te Reo Māori within 14 days”
